Author resources
If your book has already been published and you are approaching us to publish it as an eBook in PDF and/or ePUB format, then please get in touch and discuss the electronic files with us (publisher@ebooksforpleasure.com). If you have an unpublished novel then please follow these notes.
Overall: All novels should be carefully checked for punctuation, spelling and grammar. Please read through and ask yourself such questions as: Does the plot hang together? Have I left any loose ends? Have I spent too long describing one event/person, and not enough time describing another? While we consider each book submitted, we do not undertake to embark on any editorial process.
All manuscripts must be formatted as described or they may be returned for correction.
We will assess each novel to see if, in our opinion, it is appropriate for publication on our site. We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to reject any submission. On acceptance we will send you a draft contract to look over. It is designed to be simple and fair.
We only publish works of 30,000 words or more. This can be the length of a whole novel, or the total length of a collection of short stories.
Submission: Your book should be contained in one MS Word document. There is no need to break a book down chapter-by-chapter into separate documents.
If you don't use Word, but use some other word processing software, then please ask us if it is acceptable.
Please email the document as an attachment to publisher@ebooksforpleasure.com. This should be your final, checked ms. we don't supply further proofs as given the formatting process this is not practical.
Indicate into what genre you consider your book falls, e.g. romance, sci-fi, etc.
Type should be in a common typeface e.g. Times, 12pt, and single line spaced. Only use one letterspace between sentences and at all other times. Please check for double spaces using the find and replace function. Please don’t insert returns mid paragraph as these will appear as new paragraphs. These can also be searched for and deleted.
No folios or page heads or page numbering, automatic or otherwise, should be used. Please don’t use multiple line spaces to create breaks in the text—there is no need—a single line space suffices. After this space the next paragraph should be full left.
At the beginning of the book please give the title, any subtitle, and your name, as you wish them to appear on the “cover”. This should be followed by any other preliminary matter, such as acknowledgements or dedication. Following this the first chapter should begin. (We will also insert a standard copyright notice at the beginning of the book along with its ISBN, and a linked contents list.)
New chapters should not be formatted in any way, just “Chapter X” and the name of the chapter if appropriate. Each new chapter or section should start with a line without indent. Succeeding paragraphs should be formatted to indent by about 0.25 inches (6mm) or so but this measure is not critical. Please don’t use letter spaces to create the indent—work out how to format these properly using tabs.
Apart from indicating centering and block quotes, no other formatting should be used. Italic words should be keyed using the italic font. There is usually no need for bold type.
Illustrations: We would prefer that you keep illustrations to the minimum, as these cause flow problems with different reading media. If you have, for example, an opening map or somesuch, this is acceptable. Please do not embed illustrations in your Word document, but supply them separately as jpegs or tiffs (please request specifications); and indicate where they should be placed. We cannot guarantee accurate placement for technical reasons. If you have an illustrated book which you think would benefit from eBook publication, please ask us to advise at publisher@ebooksforpleasure.com.
Cover: We will design the cover for each novel. We are happy for you to submit your own ideas and artwork or photography. Please remember that it is the cover that often assists in the sale of a book, and even though your book will not be in a bookshop it will still be featured as an image on our website, albeit a small image. Any artwork should be scanned at 300 pixels per inch and should be large enough that at that resolution it is at least 3 inches wide. The same specifications relate to digital photographs. If you have any questions about this please contact us at the link above.
Pricing: We are pricing books between $US 2.99 and 5.99 on which we will pay you a gross 50% royalty on each purchase.
Marketing: We will strongly promote eBooksforpleasure.com to steer customers to the site. We suggest that you also make strenuous efforts in marketing and disseminate a link to ebooksforpleasure.com for fulfillment of any orders. It may be useful for you to construct your own website, simply to give additional information about your book(s).
